What child would not want to make a gingerbread house?
I am going to give you some helpful pointers and tell you an easy way to make the base stand great.
Here is a list of the materials you will need and and some different places you can use the items to make these kids winter crafts.
Materials Needed
- Two small milk cartons (like children drink at school).
- White icing.
- Graham crackers.
- Any other type of edible material to decorate the house with.
- Cardboard to set the scene on.
Recommendations for decorations
- Teddy Grahams for the roof.
- Marshmallows for the door trim.
- Licorice rope for the roof trim.
- Lifesaver for reefs for the windows or doors.
- Gumdrops for bushes.
- Fruit Roll-ups for sidewalk or driveway.
- M&M’s for lights or other colorful Christmas decoration.
- Pretzels for fences.
Decorations
Make sure you cardboard piece is down, you will be setting everything on this. You will first need to icing down the top of the milk carton so the flap stays down or you could cut it off. You will then icing the two cardboard cartons together so the triangular part matches up. Once you have the cartons iced together you will need to cover the cartons in icing also. This way you can put the graham crackers on it. Break the graham crackers so that they fit all around the cartons. When breaking them you can also cut out window holes and or a door hole.
You can now decorate the house. Make sure that you use the icing to make everything stick together, this makes it remain edible. Recommendations are above but you can decorate the gingerbread house, however you feel appropriate. You can also make a lake out of aluminum foil, light posts out of licorice and a yellow gumdrop for the light, and or creatures. You can make a snowman out of marshmallows or a winter animal out of gumdrops.
Once you have this completed you can leave it on display or eat it right away. It will be a fun and eventful experience for you and your child! They'll be asking for more kids winter crafts!
